Caseworker/Constituency Support Assistant

Yuan Yang is the first elected MP for the new constituency of Earley and Woodley, on the Reading/Wokingham borders.

 

Yuan is looking for an innovative, organised and empathetic  caseworker who will forge productive relationships with constituents, local community groups and community leaders.

The successful candidate will be able to prioritise urgent casework while dealing with a high volume of enquiries, providing prompt, empathetic and effective support to people who contact the MP’s Office for help with a wide range of issues.

This is primarily a caseworker role, with the potential to work with the constituency support manager to create local campaigns in response to casework issues.

This is a permanent role and full-time, part-time and flexible working options may be considered.

The role will be based in the constituency.

Key Duties:


A Caseworker will:

  • Deal with large numbers of standard queries, as well as assisting on more complex cases from members of the public by phone, email, social media or face to face.

  • Gather information to assist with resolving cases.

  • Log all cases; monitor progress and ensure all identified actions are taken.

  • Draft responses to constituents.

  • Ensure records are kept and information managed confidentially in line with data protection legislation.

  • Ensure that each case is dealt with promptly, sensitively, confidentially and accurately in accordance with the MP.

  • Identify community-based organisations in and around the Earley and Woodley constituency that are used by or support residents in the constituency and record their information for engagement

  • Build relationships with those organisations on behalf of the MP, including opportunities to visit and work together for the benefit of Earley and Woodley residents

  • Contribute to local campaigning strategy for handling local policy casework

  • Assist surgeries and other meetings and follow up as appropriate.

  • There may be a requirement for the role holder to work outside of the normal working hours and travel for work occasionally.

  • Highly organised individual with a passion to deliver for the residents of Earley and Woodley

  • Experience of working as part of a team focused on completing a busy workload, on time, accurately and to a professional standard

  • Patient, compassionate and committed to supporting others

  • The ability to use your initiative to help resolve problems and issues

  • Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills

  • Experience of supporting others in a casework, advisory or advocacy capacity

  • Experience of engagement with community organisations or audiences

  • The ability to act with integrity, confidentiality and sensitivity in dealing with people and organisations

  • An interest in politics and current affairs

  • Sympathetic to the aims, values and objectives of the Labour Party
