Constituency Support Manager

Yuan Yang is the first elected MP for the new constituency of Earley and Woodley, on the
Reading/Wokingham borders.


Yuan’s overarching mission in the constituency is to increase democratic engagement with
residents and to build collective power, so that local community associations are supported
by Yuan’s office in working on issues that affect them.


Yuan is looking for a dynamic and people-oriented Community Support Manager who will
act as a community organiser, actively seeking out, developing and maintaining
relationships with constituency-based community groups and other local stakeholders,
including businesses, schools and local government offices.


You will be Yuan’s representative in the constituency, and need to exercise sound political
judgement in helping her prioritise who to meet when managing her diary, and in drafting
correspondence on her behalf.


The successful candidate will need to have outstanding organisational skills and the ability
to design and deliver constituency communications and campaigns. You will need to be able
to prioritise a heavy workload to tight deadlines.


This is a permanent role and full-time, part-time and flexible working options may be
considered.


The role will be based in the constituency, with the option of travelling to Yuan’s
parliamentary office for some working days while Parliament is sitting.

Key Duties:


A Constituency Support Manager will:

 

  • Coordinate and deliver constituency projects, campaigns and initiatives;

  • Build coalitions of allies to drive campaigns, ranging from residents in a housing block, to councillors and local business leaders;

  • Manage Yuan’s constituency diary and inbox, responding to queries and invitations, arranging and coordinating meetings and keeping Yuan informed of any changes;

  • Map and liaise with local stakeholders and community organisations across Earley and Woodley constituency, and maintaining an up-to-date stakeholder database;

  • Support Yuan in attending meetings with constituency stakeholders and representing the MP’s office professionally;

  • Maintain positive, on-going relationships and liaise with all stakeholders including local residents, local government agencies, voluntary sector, and others to resolve constituency matters;

  • Research local, regional or national issues to support Yuan’s work.

  • Work with Caseworker colleagues to identify and prioritise local campaigns to take forward from casework correspondence;

  • Alongside the Comms Officer, ensuring Yuan’s online presence is meeting the demands of constituents;

  • Supporting the Office Manager with office administration tasks as required.

Essential attributes:

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work within a small team;

  • Self-starter, able to organise independently, and manage own workload;

  • Enthusiastic and self-motivated, able to manage multiple projects within a small team;

  • Able to communicate with and coordinate a wide range of stakeholders professionally, courteously and with care and understanding;

  • Able to manage multiple projects to tight deadlines.

Desirable:

  • Prior experience of organising and delivering campaigns and/or community
    engagement projects;

  • An understanding of and interest in the key issues and stakeholders within the Earley and Woodley constituency.

info. MPs generally pay staff in accordance with IPSA guidelines. The salary range for this
position is £29,727 - £46,381.
